The Highland Center Hrauneyjar is the perfect base for individual travellers as well as small and larger groups visiting Iceland’s interior.

As a focal point for all kinds of activities and excursions, The Highland Center Hrauneyjar is close to many of the most beautiful locations in the Highlands, including Landmannalaugar, Þjórsárdalur, Mount Hekla, Sprengisandur, Veidivötn and Fjallabak. Popular excursions from the Highland Center include Superjeep safaris, Snowmobiling, Fat Biking, Hiking and Climbing.

It is crucial to have a 4x4 vehicle while exploring the area around The Highland Center, it gives you more freedom to explore the wonders of the highlands. We recommend to contact one of the car rentals at Keflavík airport to rent 4x4 vehicle before arriving at The Highland Center Hrauneyjar. 

Road 208 to Landmannalaugar is only passable in a 4x4 vehicle, in the recent years it has opened at anytime from 25th of May until 20th of June depending on the road conditions. There is no river crossing if you take road 208 to Landmannalaugar apart from just in the very end, you can keep your car in the parking lot before the river crossing. There is a walking bridge that can be used to cross the river by foot. It takes approximately 5 min to walk from the car park to the tourist information in Landmannalaugar.
